City as Form
Erenkoey - Kadikoey - Istanbul - Turkey - Asia
A part of my life was set in the quaint upper-middle-class neighborhood of Erenkoey in Istanbul. I have lived in three different residences in my life, but the one I use in this study is my third and last one. I can not say I lived here fully - it became my family home while I was in college. Yet still, it remains to be one of most interesting urban experiences of my life.
City as Experience
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Now that I currently live in Pittsburgh while I attend college, this place means more to me than a run of the mill American city. But how much do we really know our cities? In a car centric world, I set out randomly, to an adventure to discover a city I merely thought I knew.
City as a Network
European Cheeses and US Grocery Stores
I love cheese. That is a fact. I love cheeses from many places, but nonetheless from one of my home countries - Switzerland. Among my favorites are Appenzeller, Emmentaler, Greyerzer, Raclette, and occasionally Buendner Bergkaese. But cheese is a very regional thing, and we should ask ourselves: is the thrill of taste worth all the carbon emissions? While I am not someone to make this shift suddenly, it made me aware of my own consumer habits.
How does your food consumption trail its miles? Are the carbon emissions worth the demand exerted on the market and its price?
